Key Competency Skills in Kapahaka

In Kapahaka I use my thinking skills. I use my thinking skills so that I can make sure our Kapahaka performance looks stunning and sharp.

In kapahaka I can do all the actions properly nice and sharp. I can do the actions so if my buddy next to me doesn't know the actions they can copy me.

When I'm using my Thinking skills, I need to think carefully about each action to get all the actions right. I need to work on getting to kapahaka on time and staying focussed so I can do my best learning.



In kapahaka I can do the Pukana and look fierce and fearless. I can pretend I am on the stage at the arena when Whaea Claire and Matua Todd say " give it 100 %" I will always do this, even when I am just practising. This includes our body language and being disciplined.

I need to work on going to every kapahaka practice even when it is not on Thursday. I can make sure I get to every practice by asking questions like.

"When is the practice? or "What day is the practice on?.

When I ask questions It will help me because. I will know every single action and words including the poi. This helps me to feel confident and brave.

Next steps in kapahaka is to...

Learn the poi so I don't let everybody down and so I look like I know what Im doing. I need to work on being disciplined by going to every practise and trying my best. 

I also need to work on being at the performances at Te rauparaha arena. When I don't turn up it will let my whole team down including matua Todd and whaea Claire.

Good Friday Learning Story: Relating to Others

In Good Friday I use my relating to others skills to help my group design a menu for our restaurant.

I participate and contribute equally with my buddy. When we are participating and contributing me and my buddies discuss how the menu is going to be set out and what themes,colours we are going to ue in our design. We need to make sure they match the restaurant.

I can let other people share their ideas and learn from them. I can recognise and accept other peoples opinions and ideas and use friendly arguing skills with my group so I can make a point but not hurt their feelings. I can negotiate with others and listen actively to what the say. I can also share my ideas in different ways to help everyone in my group understand my thinking.

I can think listen carefully to others (e.g Teachers.) so that my ideas can be better. I can use other peoples creative ideas and add my ideas so that I have a big idea.




My Next Steps:

When we are discussing we can ask people if they can give feedback and then use this to make our menu better. I need to work on making connections to other peoples ideas and feedback and know when to expect and accept friendly arguing.

To be open to working with anyone, even the younger kids or people from other classes in my whanau.

T2 2015 Reading Story

In Reading I have been learning to...

Visualise the text in my head to help me understand the story. When I have a clear picture, I let my team know and then I can explain what the story is about.  I found out that when you are visualising and and reading the text  you can  make connections to other stories.


When we read the key information we need on kiwi kids news in Journals,books in the library or on the Internet we have to summarise the key information. I use skimming and scamming to read and find the key words and information quickly. I then have to slow down and read the text carefully to see if it answers my questions.

Internet: Conscientiousness is the personality trait of being thorough, careful, or vigilant. Conscientiousness implies a desire to do a task well.Conscientious people are efficient and organized as opposed to easy-going and disorderly.

When I am finding key information about A book, I then have to explain and justify what it means using examples's and evidence.


I think That Diary of a Wimpy kid The Ugly Truth is a a cool book. and if you read it makes you laugh. when it makes you laugh then it's the right book for you to enjoy.

About the book.
Greg and his friend Rowley Jefferson had a big fight. The wimpy kid thought that Rowley would've come crawling back but he didn't. Greg
Started to get concerned because school was gonna start back. He said if he wanted to get back on track with his friendship something had to happen quick
He also said that if him and Rowley ARE through that things would be pretty stink because the two of them had a good friendship. 
Greg said that now there friendship is history he is going to the market to look for a new best friend. The problem was he had invested all his time in Rowley he didn't have anyone lined up to take his place.
He found two boy's named Christopher Brownfield and Tyson Sanders. but he found out each of those guys had issues. He hung out with Christopher for the weekend mostly because he was a excellent mosquito magnet. Greg liked to hang out at school  but Christopher liked summertime. He liked to play with nice hot sand,flowers and liked to plant stuff.

My next steps in reading is to explain what the author means when they don't tell us. Sometimes we need to read between the lines and look for clues to help us understand what the text is telling me. Using my prior knowledge can help me to do this.

I also have to work on asking people questions like
"What does this word mean?" and " I don't understand this word can you help me?"

When I don't need help I can get up and help other people in my group by explaining and justifying my thinking to them. 











                              




T2 2015 Maths Learning story

In maths I have been learning to use multiplication so that I can figure the problem out faster. When I'm using multiplication I know it is the same as repeated addition but it is faster. 

For example 10x4 is the same as 10+10+10+10



I know that when I use repeated addition and multiplication We can get problems done faster.


I have also been learning to use a range of strategies to figure out the problem.


The strategies I can use are.


1.repeated addition
2.multiplication by using my knowledge of timetables
3. Place value partitioning

I know when there is a hard multiplication problem I can use place value partitioning to break the problem up. This is when I multiply the 10's and then the 1's.


I know that the best way to set out my maths is like this.

78x15=(70x10)+(70x5)+(10x8)+(8x5)

         =700+350+80+40
         =1050+120
         =1170

Next steps in maths are to learn my 6 times tables and 12 times tables so I can answer the maths equation fast. 

I also need to use my knowledge of families of facts to help me solve division problems. For example: if I know 4x6=24 then I know 24÷4=6.



I also need to work on Sharing and explaining my ideas confidently. also using my prior knowledge to make connections. I know that if I be confident and if I have a go,take risk,never give up and try my best I can achieve my next steps.



I need to work on using basic facts,inverse and adding or multiplying the hundreds. I can do this by asking people questions like
